Songs have figurative language in them we just don’t
think about it enough. Defining figurative language, well figurative language
consists of seven parts. The first is alliteration. The second is metaphor. The
third is simile. The fourth is onomatopoeia. The fifth is personification. The
sixth is hyperbole. The seventh is idiom. Also there are two poetic elements.
The first is imagery the second is cliché.
You can count on me by Bruno Mars “you can count on
me cause I can count on you.” These lyrics have alliteration in the words you
can count on me. Alliteration is like a sentence that every word in it starts
with C.
Just give me a reason by Pink “right from the start
you were a thief you stole my heart. This has a metaphor comparing the one she
loved and they stole her heart. What is a metaphor, a metaphor is comparing two
things without using like or as.
Up all night to get lucky by Draft Punk and Pharrell
Williams. “Like the legend of the phoenix all ends with beginnings.” These
lyrics have similes. A simile is comparing two things using like or as.
All in all figurative language can be used in any
thing. Even in music. And if you think about it long enough you will see that
music is poetry in a way.
